A MOVING EXPERIENCE

Last month, I moved my mom to my town, so it's much easier for me to see her.

I knew going into this that I was going to make the move as easy as possible for me.  So I hired movers, scheduled out my time to pack mom's belongings and asked the movers to deliver packing boxes to her apartment.  Part of making it as easy as possible for me was to take great care of myself.  I made sure I got enough rest, which meant going to bed on time.  Food was super important for me during this time too. I ate lots of fruits, veg and protein.  And of course after the move I made sure to get a massage.  (oh my back!)

Are you going through a challenge?  Take excellent care of yourself.  You can begin by asking this question:  What can I do, right now, to care for myself?

HOW DOES YOUR SELF-CARE RATE?

If trying to maintain balance in your life makes you feel like a tightrope walker, you’re not alone. Most of us have so many demands on our time and energy, life can feel like a three-ring circus. Take this quiz to see how well you are meeting responsibilities, while also recognizing and fulfilling personal needs and wants.

True False

[ ] [ ] 1. The only way I can successfully manage my life is to take care of myself physically and emotionally.

[ ] [ ] 2. Nurturing myself enlarges my capacity to help others.

[ ] [ ] 3. I eat healthfully and exercise regularly.

[ ] [ ] 4. I get check-ups, go to the dentist, and take preventative precautions.

[ ] [ ] 5. I set aside personal, quiet time for myself, whether I’m meditating or simply letting my thoughts drift.

[ ] [ ] 6. I experience the gifts of each season: ice skating, sledding, bundled-up beach walks; gardening, hiking, more time outside; camping, swimming, barbeques; harvesting the bounty, gathering wood, spending more time inside.

[ ] [ ] 7. Creativity nurtures me, too. I do what I love, whether that’s cooking, drawing, painting, writing, dancing, singing or another creative pursuit.

[ ] [ ] 8. Reaching out to others enriches my life. I spend quality time with family and friends.

[ ] [ ] 9. Contributing to the world provides connection and purpose, so I give my time, energy and experience where it is most useful.

[ ] [ ] 10. I notice and heed the emotional signals that tell me I’m out of balance: irritability, overwhelm, resentment.

[ ] [ ] 11. If I feel that I’m catching a cold, I realize I may have stressed my immune system with overactivity, so I stop and take care of myself.

[ ] [ ] 12. When I need or want to, I say no to requests for my time.

[ ] [ ] 13. I listen to and honor the requests my body makes for such things as a nap, a walk, green vegetables, hot soup.

[ ] [ ] 14. If I have something planned for myself, I don’t just toss that aside when someone makes a request of me.

[ ] [ ] 15. I’m busy, but I find time to do the things I want to do.

[ ] [ ] 16. I’m happy. I regularly experience well-being, contentment, even joy.

If you answered false more often than true, you may want to take a look at the questions to which you answered false and see if you can incorporate something of its message into your life. Please don’t hesitate to call if you’d like to explore this issue further.

COOL RESOURCE

I'm obsessed with Mamma Mia.  The "I have a Dream" song in particular, gets me every time.   What I get from the song is this - My destination, makes the journey worth the while, even if you have to push through darkness.  Keep pushing through, you'll arrive at your destination.

Here's a link to the video

And here are the lyrics (pay special attention to the bolded words):

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

UPCOMING EVENTS

Do you long to:

Find time to fit everything in?

Be in charge of your own time?

Be more together, organized & confident?

Have you had enough of feeling stuck, confused and lost in life? Do you feel torn between the different hats that you wear? Are you struggling to find time to fit everything in? Do you feel like you aren’t in charge of your own time?

Then you are in the right place - and you are not alone.

My client Kathy was in your shoes before she coached with me.  She was constantly worried - about making her new home livable, about whether she was ever going to have free time and when challenges crept up, she froze -  and it was a stressful, difficult time in her life.

When she said yes to coaching, she felt confident to deal with challenges, she discovered she had the free time she craved and she has peace of mind.  In fact, she said to me, “what am I doing to do with all of this free time - I haven’t had it in decades!”  (what a great problem to have!)

Mark your calendar and join me on Wednesday, October 31st at 11 a.m. CST (12 p.m. EST/10 a.m. MT/9 a.m. PT) for my Balancing It All Webinar.

During this webinar you will learn:

  • How to live an extraordinary life by finally saying “I can’t stand it anymore.  I’ve had enough."
  • How to use the gifts you have and feel balanced between the different hats that you wear.
  • How to find the time to fit everything in.
  • How to find a balance, be in charge of your own time, be more together, organized and confident so that you can work on what you find extraordinary.
